Why You Might Not Like Your First Stretching Class at MokoBoko

It will be hard. Really. If you never did it before, you might find it very uncomfortable. But hear me out.

Imagine this: You've just joined MokoBoko, a friendly place in Lisbon where small groups come together to stretch, do yoga, Pilates, and barre.

It's your first stretching class, and you're a bit nervous. Before the class, you notice the warmth and welcoming vibe of the studio. You see similar people where everyone is looking to get better, just like you.

First Impressions

You change into your workout clothes and grab a mat. You notice that nervous feeling in your stomach. New studio. New people. New class. Everything is new. “I never did stretching before, am I going to do it right?” “Am I flexible enough?” “What if…” and nervous thoughts start rushing through your head.

Then you notice the teacher welcoming everyone. She comes over to you —she's got a warm smile and asks if there's anything she should know, like if you've got any old injuries. It's nice to feel cared for, right?

Meeting New Friends

You notice another new person next to you—she's from Italy and just moved to town. She said she's a little bit flexible. But as the class starts, wow, it's harder than you both thought! The teacher, who seems to be really, really good at stretching, helps you out, showing you how to move and bend.

Feeling the Challenge

She assists you with every move, ensuring that you can do all the poses safely so you don’t get injured. But all you feel is how stiff your body is. At one point, it just gets to your nerves and frustrates you why everything is so hard. And you start asking yourself, “Maybe this is not right for me?” “Maybe I am not good for these classes?” More thoughts start rushing through your head.

After the Class

After class, your body feels weird—like you've worked muscles you didn't know you had. And you wonder even more, is this for me? Maybe that's what the Italian girl is thinking, too.

Then, the teacher notices you look a bit discouraged after the class. She approaches you and tells you it's normal to feel this way and not to give up just yet. Things require time. Investing in your body can be one of the biggest rewards of your life. And all you need for that is — patience and consistency.

The Journey to Flexibility

Here's the thing: getting flexible and feeling good in your body takes time. It took me 12 classes to really see the difference! (My Apple Watch reminded me of that.) But when you keep coming, each class gets a little bit easier. You start to feel more flexible, soft, and strong.

Stick With It!

At MokoBoko, we're all about the journey. We know it can be hard at first, but we're here for you every step of the way. So, come on back, roll out your mat, and let's do this together. Because it's not just about the stretches; it's about unlocking all the awesome stuff you can do.

Consistency is Key

So stay consistent with your journey. If you begin doing something, remember—it takes time. But we guarantee you will get there if you stay consistent.

Also, if you want to begin things a bit easier and get your body adapted to new things—we have a free 7 Day Pilates Challenge for you. Come in every day, and for 10 minutes practice Pilates, stretching, and mobility work with us. We promise, this will be a great foundation before you come to our classes. Otherwise, you are very welcome to our functional stretching classes 🥰
